What actually happens when you open a case with us

From first message to funds released: the whole process, what we need from you, and what you should expect at each stage.

Written and reviewed by the recovery deskTRACE AI INVESTIGATIONS LTD · company no. 16828440Last reviewed 25 August 2026

1. First contact

You tell us what happened. Roughly, in your own words. You do not need documents or technical detail at this point, and you do not pay anything to talk to us.

What helps most: when it started, how you were contacted, roughly how much was lost, and whether you still have access to the messages.

2. Assessment

We look at whether the case is traceable at all. Sometimes the honest answer is no, and we will say so rather than take a file we cannot progress. If it is viable, we explain what we think can be done and what it will cost. Every cost is agreed in writing before anything starts.

3. Verification

Your identity is verified and bound to your case file. This is what the refundable deposit is for; it is explained in full in its own article. Nothing about this step is a payment for recovery.

4. Evidence gathering

We need what you already have:

  • transaction hashes and wallet addresses you sent to
  • bank statements showing outgoing payments
  • screenshots of the platform and your balance
  • the full chat history with whoever contacted you

Do not tidy these up or delete anything embarrassing. Evidence works because it is complete.

5. The trace

Funds are followed across the chain, through any mixing or bridging, to the point where they meet a regulated business. This is written up as a formal report intended to be read by a compliance officer or a court.

6. Notification and freezing

The report is served on the identified exchange or platform, and where appropriate through legal channels. The decision to freeze is theirs, not ours. We push, we evidence, and we escalate.

7. Release

Where a freeze holds and the claim is accepted, funds are released. Your wallet on this site shows the position of your case as it moves, so you are not waiting on emails to find out where things stand.

What you will not get from us

  • A promise of recovery
  • A timeline we cannot control
  • Silence. If your case stalls, you will be told it has stalled and why.
Talk to the desk

If any part of this applies to you, the first conversation costs nothing and every cost after it is agreed in writing first.
